Nancy McLendon Scott
Hello...Welcome to the hub of Simondixie. I'm a freelance writer from Alabama, recently retired from teaching English and reading in the Alabama Community College System. In 2014, I settled down in a neighboring state, and the beautiful hills of north Georgia became my new home. Currently, I'm exploring Georgia's quaint towns with their historic courthouses and town squares, as well as the state's parks and scenic back roads. Many of these sites will be the subject of my next hubs.
I enjoy writing for lots of reasons, but I started writing for pleasure about six years ago when one of my teachers at Auburn University introduced me to the idea that I should write some of the stories I heard during my growing up years. In the last few years, I've published a couple of these stories. The first, "Sylvia's Story" in Mercer University Press, Crossroads, a Southern Culture Annual (2006) and "Phantoms of the Wiregrass" in a University of Alabama publication, Alabama Heritage (2011). I'm in the process of putting together a collection of ghost stories from the Wiregrass---an area extending from southern Georgia, across the Florida panhandle, and through southern Alabama. I grew up in south Alabama and lived there until recently.
I'm an enthusiastic Auburn fan---but my first hub is about Paul "Bear" Bryant, some memories of watching his television show and meeting him. Hope you'll read it, comment, and make suggestions if you'd like.
