Three Comings of Jesus Christ

While most people talk about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, the Bible clearly speaks about three comings of Jesus. Christians should know exactly what those three comings are and how to look forward to the return of Jesus Christ.

First Coming Of Jesus Christ (Luke 2:11)

The first coming of Jesus Christ is called the Incarnation. That's when Jesus came in the flesh and was born of the Virgin Mary (Luke 2:11). He came to save all people

The first coming of Jesus has already happened. Christians celebrate Christmas every year to honor the birth of Jesus when He came as a baby in a manger. The Old Testament had prophesied the coming Messiah thousands of years before He came, according to John 1:1.

Second Coming Of Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)

Jesus will return just as He promised. This is known as the Second Coming when He comes will come for the saints. Most people know about the Second Coming, but they stop there without going any further in the biblical account.

While the first coming is a past event, the Second Coming is a future event.

The Second Coming will be the time when Jesus descends from heaven the same way He ascended in a cloud with nail prints still in His hands. He will stay in the air without His feet never touching the earth. The event is known as the "rapture" even though the word is not in the Bible.

The Rapture

"Rapture" simply means "caught up in the air." During the rapture, the dead in Christ will rise first followed by the saved ones who are still alive. Both groups will be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air. The saved ones will go back with Jesus. The unsaved dead will stay where they are. The unsaved ones who are still alive will be left on earth to go through a tribulation period. Some of them will perish, but some will become saved during this period. However, it won't be easy because the Holy Spirit will not be on earth. No other saints will be around to serve as godly examples. That's why it is wise for people to get saved before the rapture.

People Affected By The Rapture

  • The dead in Christ will rise first.
  • The living saved will be caught up in the air with the dead.
  • The unsaved dead will stay in their graves.
  • The unsaved living will remain on earth to go through the Tribulation.

Third And Final Coming of Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 1:7)

The Second Coming is when Jesus will return FOR the saints. The Third Coming is when Jesus will return WITH the saints that met Him in the air during the rapture (2 Thessalonians 1:7).

After the tribulation has passed, Jesus will return to earth with the saints to judge those who still do not know God and still have not confessed Jesus Christ as Lord. It is recorded in Zechariah 14:4 that this will be Jesus' final descent. This time His feet will touch the ground in Mount Olives. Jesus will stay on earth and set up His kingdom.

The coming of Christ just might be about elevating our thinking of God. What is God like? In the Bronze Age God was a Warrior who flew around and killed people. He had Jealousy, Vengeance and Wrath.

Let us Progress and understand what Jesus taught: God is Good, always Good and without negative human emotions. God Accepts you just as Jesus accepted everyone and never condemned.

Any story in the Bible or without describing God as Violent or with bad emotions is blasphemy.

Great job laying out the truths about this, or these comings of Jesus Christ. I hope to peek at more of your work later on.

I'm home from work for three months following a knee replacement surgery. I'm hoping to get back into writing for hubpages and some other places too possibly, and have more time for studying the Bible.

I'm a bit curious under whose teachings you learned this? It would be interesting to find we may have similar backgrounds.

Thank you. Here are a couple more citations from the Bible with a conclusion.

DAVID REPORTS THE LORD FLEW IN A CLOUD. 2 Samuel 22:10-15

He bowed the heavens, and came down; thick darkness was under his feet. He rode on a cherub, and flew; he was seen upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness around him a canopy, thick clouds, a gathering of water. Out of the brightness before him coals of fire flamed forth. The Lord thundered from heaven; the Most High uttered his voice. He sent out arrows, and scattered them – lighting, and routed them.

AN AIRCRAFT FLEW INTO EGYPT. Isaiah 19:1

An oracle concerning Egypt. See, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.

Thanks to the Rabbis a record has been preserved that describes events long ago for our review. Today we can recognize an aircraft when it is described to us. Aircraft and pilots were misidentified as God or angels in Old Testament accounts. An advanced, high-tech people came in contact with low-tech people and were misidentified as God/Lord/Angels. Other ancient religions have similar accounts (Greek, Hebrew, Persian and Hindu).

        From article:

"The Second Coming will be the time when Jesus descends from heaven the same way He ascended in a cloud with nail prints still in His hands."

Search for the number of times The Lord is associated with or in a cloud. There are many references and here are a few.

As I looked, a stormy wind came out of the north: a great cloud with brightness around it and fire flashing forth continually, and in the middle of the fire, something like gleaming amber. In the middle of it was something like four living creatures.

The Lord went in front of them in a pillar of cloud by day, to lead them along the way, and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light, so that they might travel by day and by night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.

AN AIRCRAFT MOVED IN A CLOUD. Exodus 14:19

The angel of God who was going before the Israelite army moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and took its place behind them.

At the morning watch the Lord in the pillar of fire and cloud looked down upon the Egyptian army; threw the Egyptian army into panic.

For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, before the eyes of all the house of Israel at each stage of their journey.

What is with the Lord/Jesus being in a cloud?
